Reflections on My Time at Hebrew University

By Sabina Dobrer, Richmond BC

I moved to Israel in September 1991 from Latvia (former Soviet Union) and attended the Mechina program at Hebrew U in 1992-1993. I fell in love with Hebrew U and it was the only university I applied to for both my degrees – Bachelor (Statistics, 1993-1997) and Master (Demography, 1997-1999).

Studying at HU had a tremendous impact on my professional and personal life. Studying with world-renowned professors gave me not only a basic ability to understand data and statistical applications but also an in-depth knowledge required in the modern world where data has become a new commodity.

Hebrew U’s Mount Scopus campus, with its botanical gardens, panoramic views of the Judea desert and Jerusalem (including the Old City) became a special place for me. I met my future husband and started our family there (my son was born two weeks after my Master’s degree exam).
