Hosted by CFHU, Israeli artist and educator Shirel Horovitz recently gave a well-curated presentation in Toronto that highlighted the evolution of Israeli art and artists. Using art as a lens through which to look at history, she detailed significant developments in Israeli art, showcasing how artists tackled historical realities and cultural shifts. Shirel, who’s had exhibitions and been an artist-in-residence in Israel and the United States, examined the nation’s interweaving artistic narratives and key artists and their respective influence on Israeli culture. As part of the evening, a lively Q&A session touched on various topics including art education in Israel, the future of Israeli art and the importance of celebrating modern Israeli artists.
