Reflections on My Time at Hebrew University

By Bari Handelman, Toronto

In 2012, after feeling unhappy at my previous university, I decided to spend my third year abroad at Hebrew University. It’s the best decision I’ve made. I’m so happy I took the risk to move there for the year.

When thinking about going on exchange, picking Hebrew U was an easy decision as it’s literally in my DNA. My parents did their third year at Hebrew U, which is where they met and fell in love. I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to walk in their footsteps and continue our family legacy at such a special school in the best country.

Coming to Hebrew U greatly influenced my life in countless, positive ways. It gave me first-hand experience on what it’s like to be Israeli and live in Israel for an extended period. It impacted me on how to thrive as a proud Jew and immersed me in incredibly unique courses with people from around the world.

Hebrew U also influenced my life by strengthening my passion for Israel and Judaism, while also giving me the opportunity to make lifelong friends and learn so much about myself. I often look back at my time at Hebrew U and consider it the best year of my life. It was an unbelievably special and invaluable experience.
