L to R: Rami Kleinmann, Monette Malewski, Carmi GillonL to R: Rami Kleinmann, Monette Malewski, Carmi Gillon A former head of Israel’s internal security service puts the
threat Iran poses to the Jewish state’s existence on par with the
wars fought in 1948, 1967 and 1973.  Carmi Gillon, who was in the Shin Bet for 24 years, including serving as its director from 1994 to ’96, said Iran’s Islamic fundamentalist regime is intent on destroying Israel if it has nuclear weapons, and it makes no difference if Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is president or not.
“Iran’s mullahs have the ideology and the motivation to use nuclear weapons. Their fundamental religious belief is that no foreigner, whether Christian or Jewish, can govern their holy land. The hatred is real – Ahmadinejad can come and go. It’s the mullahs who make the decision,” said, Gillon, who is now vice-president of external relations at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Letter From Hebrew U Student – Erica Fagen of Montreal

HU Student from MtlHU Student from MtlShalom Chaverim,

I have been studying at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem since late January.  So far, my experience in Israel has been amazing, learning Hebrew, going on great trips, and making new friends from all over the world. Since I am studying towards a degree in history, having the opportunity to learn in Jerusalem is a unique experience: living in a city over 3,000 years old and being in such close proximity to the Old City. I am enjoying my classes, two of which are “Arab-Israeli Conflict” and “Archeology of Jerusalem”.  The courses I selected are either ones I could not take in Montreal or are just interesting to study in Israel.

For most students, The Hebrew University of Jerusalem is a place to study, learn Hebrew, experience life in Israel and a great springboard for travel.
For Greg and Melanie Samuels it was all that and a spaghetti-filled courtship that lead to marriage.
