A process to transmit medical images via cellular phones that has been developed by a Hebrew University of Jerusalem researcher has the potential to provide sophisticated radiological diagnoses and treatment to the majority of the world’s population lacking access to such technology.

Two Hebrew University researchers, Prof. Howard Cedar and Prof. Aharon Razin, have been awarded the 2008 Wolf Prize in Medicine for their fundamental contributions to the control of gene expression and cancer research. The Wolf Prize is awarded annually to outstanding scientists and artists, ''for achievements in the interest of mankind and friendly relations among peoples, irrespective of nationality, race, color, religion, sex, or political view.''

Hebrew University of Jerusalem President Prof. Magidor is among presidents of some 25 leading research universities from around the world who are participating this week in New York City at the third meeting of the United Nations Secretary General's Global Colloquium of University Presidents. The colloquium is dealing with issues related to global climate change.
The Hebrew University is the only Israeli university represented at the meeting.

Samuel Rothberg, a key architect of the American Jewish community’s relationship with Israel who, as both a philanthropist and business leader, played a major role in the nascent state’s economic and scientific development, died in Peoria, Illinois on Saturday July 7. He was 97.
