The Rothberg International School
The Rothberg International School (RIS) serves some 4,000 students annually and offers a variety of academic programs with a large selection of courses in English, Spanish, French, Russian and Hebrew. Freshman/Academic Gap Program (First-Year and Gap Year Students)
This option is specially designed for first-year students, whether they plan to continue their studies in Israel or back home. Students may enroll for the entire year or for either the autumn or spring semester. A variety of first-year courses are offered in the areas of Israel and Middle Eastern studies, Religion, Brain and Behavioral Sciences, and Environmental Studies.
Undergraduate Study Abroad Program (2nd-4th Year Students) - NEW STUDY SPECIALIZATIONS
Since 1955, over 20,000 international students have attended the Undergraduate Study Abroad Program (formerly known as the One Year Program), earning transferable credits and making lasting connections with classmates and Israeli friends, the Hebrew University, the city of Jerusalem and the country itself.
Spring in Jerusalem - Honors Program (3rd-4th Year Students)
This exciting joint initiative of Harvard University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem is designed for outstanding students in their third and fourth years of study who are looking for a unique intellectual challenge. Students experience Israel through field trips, social encounters with prominent Israelis, supervised internships, independent research projects and a variety of extracurricular activities.
DanceJerusalem (2nd-4th Year Students)
This unique new program, initiated jointly by the Rothberg International School (RIS) and the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance (JAMD), combines artistic training in dance skills and technique with academic exposure to Israel's challenging social, historical and cultural environment. DanceJerusalem offers university-level artistic and technical training in the disciplines of Classical Ballet, Contemporary Dance Choreography, Repertoire and Improvisation.
Jerusalem Sounds (2nd-4th Year Students) - NEW - STARTING SPRING 2011
Starting spring 2011, Jerusalem Sounds is a new and unique initiative of the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance (JAMD) and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Rothberg International School (RIS). Studies include a full music program consisting of individual instruction, performance in small and large ensembles and classes in Jewish and Israeli music. Students also choose from a wide range of university courses in Religious, Israel and Middle Eastern Studies, Behavioral Sciences and Environmental Studies, as well as Hebrew Language.
ArtJerusalem- NEW STARTING AUTUMN 2011
A joint initiative of the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Rothberg International School (RIS), combining artistic training, university study and first-hand exposure to Israel's challenging social, historical and cultural environment.Studies include a wide variety of art courses in such areas as Painting, Sculpture, Drawing and Screen Printing as well as choosing from a broad selection of university courses in Israel and Middle Eastern Studies, Religion, Behavioral Sciences, Environmental Studies, and Hebrew Language.
The Nativ College Leadership Program in Israel (First-Year and Gap Year Students)
The Nativ College Leadership Program in Israel is designed for North American high school graduates and is affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism.
Government and Politics in Israel (First-Year and Gap Year Students)
Government and Politics in Israel (GaP) is an initiative of the Rothberg International School (RIS) and the Menachem Begin Heritage Center, the state memorial and research center entrusted with commemorating the legacy of Israel's sixth prime minister. The program is designed for outstanding Jewish high school graduates, who study Israeli government, politics and society, as well as Hebrew and Arabic, in a specially tailored nine month program that includes trips and extended hikes across Israel.
