The Rothberg International School
The Rothberg International School (RIS) serves some 4,000 students annually and offers a variety of academic programs with a large selection of courses in English, Spanish, French, Russian and Hebrew. The School caters to undergraduate and graduate students and new immigrants, and provides general admission and evaluation services to students with qualifications from abroad who apply to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Three New RIS Initiatives for 2010 by the Hebrew University of Jerusalem
1-Spring in Jerusalem – A new initiative of Harvard University and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem
The aim of this exciting new program is to assure the best possible academic and integrative experience for international students. Students will participate in departmental classes offered at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJ), study Hebrew or Arabic at all levels, as well as experience Israeli society first hand. In addition, students can undertake independent research, and will have the option to consider a wide variety of academically supervised internship opportunities—in the course of the semester or during the summer. Internship offerings will likely be available in the Arts, Historical Geography and Archeology, Politics, International Relations, Middle East, Community, Education, Social Justice, Environment, Health and Medicine, Law and Human Right, Media and Journalism, Biological Anthropology, Religion and Social Justice. As of the spring semester of 2010, a growing number of courses at HUJ will be offered in English in fields including Brain Studies, Artificial Intelligence, Environmental Studies, Game Theory, Program in Rationality, Islamic and Middle Eastern Studies and Jewish Studies.

2-DanceJerusalem
DanceJerusalem is a new unique program initiated by the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance (JAMD) and the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Rothberg International School (RIS) combines artistic training in dance, academic study and exposure to Israel’s challenging social, historical and cultural environment. DanceJerusalem offers university-level training in the disciplines of Classical Ballet, Contemporary Dance (including Ohad Naharin’s Gaga), Choreography, Repertoire and Improvisation. Within the framework of a comprehensive survey course, “Dance in Israel,” students create, rehearse and perform works with outstanding Israeli composers and choreographers. In addition, students choose from a wide range of academic courses in Israel and Middle Eastern Studies, Comparative Religion, Environmental Studies, and Behavioral Sciences as well as Hebrew Language.

3-Government and Politics in Israel (GaP)
This program is run by the Menachem Begin Heritage Center in collaboration with the Rothberg International School at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem. It offers outstanding and highly motivated Jewish post high school students (18-19) an opportunity to study government, politics and society, as well as Hebrew and Arabic, at RIS, in a specially tailored program that also includes trips and extended hikes across Israel which will not only explore the Israeli landscape but also its people. The program's duration is nine months and is based in Jerusalem. There will be two semesters of academic study, providing 30 university credits. During the semesters, participants will study four days a week and volunteer in Jerusalem for one day. Participants will also have the opportunity to take part in roundtable discussions with key decision- makers and opinion- formers in Israeli government and society. The program is currently recruiting for its inaugural session, starting October 1st, 2009.
