Jewish Foundation of Manitoba Distributes $1.6 million
Jewish Foundation of Manitoba Presents $22,000 to CFHU Winnipeg Chapter
Beginning on Thursday, December 10, representatives from the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba “hit the streets”, visiting charitable organizations across the city with their annual distribution cheques. Over $1.6 million was hand-delivered or mailed to 118 Winnipeg organizations! The Jewish Foundation is making it a year-end tradition to have volunteers and donors call in on Jewish and non-Jewish organizations. The group gave donations to a variety of organizations including the Alzheimer Society, the Winnipeg Art Gallery, Gwen Secter Creative Living Centre, Mount Carmel Clinic, St. Boniface General Hospital Research Foundation, and the University of Manitoba Foundation.
These cheques comprise allocations from “donor-advised” or “designated” endowment trusts, which allow donors the opportunity to recommend organizations that are to receive the income from their trusts, subject to board approval. In total, the Foundation will have distributed approximately $2.7 million in grants and scholarships in 2009.
“Visiting these organizations in person, especially at this time of year, gives our volunteers, donors, staff and the community at large an all-round feeling of warmth and goodwill,” says Marsha Cowan, Chief Executive Officer. In the picture to the right, Marsha Cowan, Chief Executive Officer of the Jewish Foundation of Manitoba, is seen presenting a cheque for $22,000 to Rami Kleinmann, National Director of the Canadian Friends of the Hebrew University (left), along with Nathan Lindenberg, President of the CFHU.
