Jerusalem, Nov. 29, 2007 -- Hebrew University of Jerusalem President Prof. Magidor is among presidents of some 25 leading research universities from around the world who are participating this week in New York City at the third meeting of the United Nations Secretary General's Global Colloquium of University Presidents. The colloquium is dealing with issues related to global climate change.

The Hebrew University is the only Israeli university represented at the meeting. Among those attending are presidents of leading universities from North America, Europe, Asia, South America and Africa. Among the participating universities are Princeton, Yale, Harvard, NYU, Oxford and Tokyo universities.

The colloquium, meeting today at New York University, has evolved into a growing network of university presidents who are sought for their input towards solving global public policy problems. These ideas are considered of value in assisting the UN Secretary-General and constituent UN bodies in moving forward on these issues.

This year's colloquium focuses on ideas for adoption of concrete governance policies for reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and other measures for adapting to the impact of climate change. The participants have been asked to relate to ways in which universities can specifically contribute to awareness and behavioral change regarding environmental issues.

Accompanying President Magidor to the conference is Hebrew University Professor of Atmospheric Sciences Daniel Rosenfeld, a world renowned expert on issues pertaining to precipitation and the impact of pollutants on rainfall.
