HU Ranked 2nd in List of Best Places to Work in Academia

November 16, 2008 - The Scientist magazine has ranked the Hebrew University and the Weizmann Institute at the top of its list of academic institutions around the world as the “Best Places to Work in Academia, 2008” in the field of life sciences.

The Hebrew University was ranked second on the list, and the Weizmann Institute was ranked first.

The ranking is based on a survey that the magazine carried out among more than 2,300 employees in 73 academic institutions in North America and around the world. Among the 41 criteria, participants of the ranking were asked to rank different institutions according to the level of salary, condition of the buildings and research resources.

The Hebrew University succeeded in surpassing some world-renowned institutions, such as Liverpool University, British Columbia University and Antwerp University.

At the Hebrew University, 513 researchers in the field of life sciences published 10,346 articles in scientific journals over the last decade (1998-2008). At the Weizmann Institute, 236 researchers published 4,505 articles over the same period.

Hebrew University President Prof. Menachem Magidor said he is proud that two Israeli research institutions were ranked at the top of a list of best academic work places outsides the United States. "The Hebrew University is a leading research institution in Israel and the world, and its researchers benefit from mutual inspiration, through a spirit of creative thought and research excellence."
