Academy Award Winner Morgan Freeman to Receive Prestigious Key of Knowledge Award

Morgan FreemanThe Canadian Friends of The Hebrew University, Toronto Chapter will present the esteemed Key of Knowledge Award to Mr. Morgan Freeman in recognition of his work in combating segregation and prejudice, and promoting knowledge and education throughout the world.

Previous award recipients include the late Jake Eberts, producer of Chariots of Fire, Gandhi, and Dances with Wolves. Fiona Eberts will present the award to Mr. Freeman along with Hebrew University President, Menachem Ben Sasson.

“We are thrilled to honor a man who has not only touched hearts and minds on the big screen, but has worked consistently, courageously, and with his quiet leadership, to tackle pressing social issues and inspire young individuals to pursue knowledge and education.” said Randy Masters, CFHU Toronto Chapter President. The award ceremony is scheduled for Spring 2013 in Toronto, date and location to be announced in the new year.

Mr. Freeman has appeared in over 100 movies and starred in Academy Award-Winning films such as Million Dollar Baby, The Shawshank Redemption, and Driving Miss Daisy. He received the Oscar as best supporting actor for Million Dollar Baby.

Mr. Freeman will be introduced by Paul Saltzman, founder of the non-profit, Moving Beyond Prejudice, and director-producer of two films Mr. Freeman has recently been in: Prom Night in Mississippi and The Last White Knight.

Inspired by Hebrew University founders Albert Einstein and Sigmund Freud, the award recognizes leaders and visionaries who have bettered society through the dissemination of knowledge, wisdom, and personal example.
